About Tim Flach in conversation with Lewis Blackwell

Tim Flach is one of the world’s leading conceptual photographers, having created a body of work that is known for its exploration of our relationship with other animals.

In his latest book More Than Human (Abrams, Sept 2012), he takes this into new points of inquiry with surprising portraiture of creatures ranging from exquisite pupae, to the world’s largest cat, to intimate scenes of bonobos and other primates. At the heart of all the images are questions about how we shape nature and how it shapes us.

Tim’s work was the subject of an unprecedented 14-page feature in the May 2012 issue of Intelligent Life magazine, and has won numerous awards around the world. His previous, much honoured, books are Dogs Gods and Equus. His fine-art prints are increasingly sought-after.

Lewis Blackwell is an author, publisher, and photography expert. His works include the bestselling Life & Love of Trees and the critically-acclaimed Photowisdom. He wrote the text and gave creative advice on all three of Tim’s books.

He is the Chief Creative Officer of Evolve Images as well as Editor-at-Large at PQ Blackwell. Among previous roles he edited Creative Review magazine and was the worldwide creative director of Getty Images.
